UKirk Collegiate Ministries is excited to bring you another year of Words for Waiting: Daily Devotions for Advent & Christmas. In partnership with the Presbyterian Mission Agency’s Office of Christian Formation, this free resource will once again be available as a printable PDF, and through daily blog posts. The Sunday Companion Guide will be back for another year too, featuring candle lighting liturgies and discussion questions for the four Sundays of Advent and Christmas. But we need your help to make it all happen!
We’re looking for students, campus ministers, and campus ministry groups to create the daily reflections. Neighbors from other areas of the Church are welcome to fill out the interest form as well! (Though in the event that there are more interested contributors than days in the devotional, we’ll prioritize campus-ministry-connected folks.) Once selected, contributors will be assigned a Scripture reading, then be asked to provide a half-page reflection and 1-2 sentence prayer. Visual, poetic, and other creative reflections are enthusiastically welcomed! To see examples of previous devotions, check out the Words for Waiting blog here.
The official title for this year’s theme is still a work in progress, but no matter what it ends up being called, this year we’ll be leaning on some of the ancestors of our faith, learning from the past even as we turn toward the future. The Sunday Companion Guide will feature the Revised Common Lectionary’s readings from Isaiah, and many of the daily Scriptures include stories from the Hebrew Bible, or New Testament story tellers sharing lessons from those who’ve come before us. (More theme details to come soon!)
If you’re interested in contributing to this year’s Words for Waiting, fill out this form by September 21.
