Kate Bowler writes in her Advent devotional, “In early America, especially in Irish and Appalachian communities, families placed a single candle in the window at Christmastime. To outsiders, it might have looked like decoration. But to those who knew, it was an open invitation: You are welcome here. There is room at our table.” (https://katebowler.substack.com/p/advent-day-18-the-candle-in-the-window)
Your UKirk Network Ministry may not have put a literal candle in the window of your meeting space, but since the hot days of Welcome Week in August through Friendsgiving feasts and finals breaks, through joy, anxiety, and sorrow, from the first days of the semester all the way to final exams, you have welcomed students each and every day and shown them the expansiveness of God’s love.
As you head into the Winter break, I hope the gifts of both rest and joy welcome you and you get to experience in small and grand ways the expansiveness of God’s love.
Blessings,
Gini
